Here come the last bunch. The end is in sight.
This last group are either undated episodes, or files that needed some repair. January 10th will be the last regular daily podcast. On that day I'll upload about 20 short files (rather than make everyone wait a day for another 60-second bit). I started on January 23, 2006, so we will end just short of three full years from the beginning.
Thanks to all those who offered words of support, a big thanks to those who came before me who actually produced and preserved these files, and of course I'm thankful to Jean Shepherd for entertaining us for all those years.

i got hooked over the summer and have listened like a addicted upwards to 4 shows a day. thank you. im tearing up knowing that the end is coming but hell, im jus gonna start from the beginning. keep your knees loose!

I want to thank & commend you for doing this. I have some of his albums, but love to hear old radio like this. We watched his movie for about the 15th consecutive year last night, and it never gets old. Much obliged for your efforts!
Love the Christmas season and Army Shepherd shows. I was stationed in New York City in the Army from 1961 to 1963. And once I discovered Shepherd's shows on WOR, I'd try to listen to him as often as possible.
I recall one phrase especially about what "fun" there was being stationed in the Army. "Let's go down to the PX for a Mars bar." :)
The world NEEDS another Shep. And it ain't Garrison Keel-over. :)
You are wonderful and amazing; your dedication to preserving these radio shows is utterly appreciated. I can never thank you enough for helping me re-live all those wonderful nights spent listening to Shep...he never gets stale, and enlivens every day with his warmth.
Does this mean your website will cease to exist? I just became aware of your site again a few weeks ago and so have been recording them to EP mode videotape. But I don't think I can get them all recorded by January 10th. Is there a possibility that you will still have the web site running anyway?
I have a few things in common with Shep. I started my own AM radio station out on the farm in South Dakota when I was in grade school. I never did get my ham license. Couldn't be proficient in code. So I opted to go the air anyway with a small AM station to broadcast to the neighboring farms. Later on I did get into radio as a DJ and engineer.
And I worked for the first full time successful talk station here in Minneapolis/Saint Paul, WLOL back in the 1970s. And I was a classical music announcer in my last radio gig.
One thing Shepard never mentions, as far as I know, is that WOR was a huge Mutual Broadcasting System flagship station. For instance, the Boston Blackie radio show was broadcast and recorded in the WOR studios.
Wonder why Shep never mentioned anything about old time radio being produced there at WOR?
And if you do close this website, where could I otherwise record Shep shows from the internet?
And is there a website that has details of WOR Mutual, etc!

Don't worry, the recordings will continue to be available for the foreseeable future, which I hope will be a very long time. All the files, including the podcast feed, are hosted on archive.org, which is also the home of the Internet Wayback Machine, and they should be around for a long time. This website is hosted by Google, which is also not going anywhere soon.
ShepFan, thanks a million! :) I have been diligently recording the shows to slowest mode videotape most of the weekend. Good use of the VCRs. No audio dropout. Blessings upon you and your kindly Mitzvah heart. :)
I'm the radio guy, of course. And I want to add ironically that I also was in the Signal Corps like our beloved Shep. Here's a short true story.
I was just completing some advanced Army Reserve (AR) training in my signal MOS, which was a 31V. And so I was sitting in my home office hoping that I'd get another writing assignment from a particular magazine or that my AR company might call me for some extra duty at a warm place since it was a snowy day in February.
Wow! Cosmic forces at work! No kidding. I got a call just then from the unit clerk at my AR school company tell me I was going to Fort Gordon, the Signal School for the Gulf War.
And what at 3-month stateside adventure that was. Just how all we 31V senior NCOs got called up is another real-life Shep experience. It turns out that apparently some clerk in the Pentagon wrote in longhand for "31V" reservists to be called up. If the clerk had written more legibly, the Pentagon''s real need for all the AR 31C "Charlie wiredogs" called up to lay down field phones and the like would have been fulfilled. Yep, the "C" looked like a "V" so orders were cut for 31Vs. :)
My 31V MOS is a techy fixed and field radio operations soldier. And so ALL the 31V (Victor) senior NCOs were called up to the astonishment of the CSM at Fort Gordon. Since most of us were cross-trained, we would up teaching the Signal School privates and E4s how to dig trenches for wire, string wire, set up antennas and all that jazz.
And we were all sent back home three months later.
Thank you so much for your effort in locating, preserving and repairing these great shows and making them available to new and old audiences. This is one of the most important audio projects on the whole Web. I have the whole archive on my iPod so I never have to go anywhere without thousands of Shep shows to listen to.
I wish I had some kind of Official Prize to award you. Maybe some kind of brass thing. With some kind of decoration, maybe. It's right on the tip of my tongue! Excelsior, you Fathead!
This morning I noticed the short files and found my way over to this site to see what was going on. Congrats on the long run. Thanks to you I have an enormous collection to listen to and share. But what blew me away was noticing my own show listed here as "similar". I can think of no greater honor than to be so considered. Best of luck with future endeavors. And thank you.

Shepfan...THANK YOU for your gargantuan efforts. I came across your site completely at random, while searching for something else. Unbelievable. I am utterly flummoxed at this miraculous find. And the first podcast I listened to on iTunes? "Ernie The Barber" -- a show I had preserved on cassette along with a handful of others. Hadn't heard it in many, many years. Still just as funny. I can't thank you enough for this treasure trove.

Thanks for posting all these!! I came across Jean thru A Christmas Story and A Carousel of Progress. After some searching on the web, I found this podcast.
I grew up in the wrong area (and too late) to hear these first hand, but thanks to you, I now have the run on my iPod and I'm working my through them slowly.
This podcast was a big reason why I bought the big iPod! Thanks again!!

Thanks for all the work you did in posting these. Strangely enough, if you go to the podcast in iTunes it says there are 301 episodes going back to 4/09 but obviously there are a lot more than that, as you see when you subscribe.
Yesterday I finally caught up with the podcast, and I've heard the last episode at last.

Another Shep fan here.
I listened to him on WOR in NYC when I was young. Climbed into bed, turned off the light, pulled the covers over my head and put the transistor radio in my ear for the 10:15-11:00 pm broadcast. Loved every minute of it.
Recently found out that www.shep-archives.com closed, but THANK YOU for keeping the Shep collection alive!

Just wanted to say THANKS! And bravo! I really enjoy Shep, and you've done a fantastic thing, organizing all these shows, removing duplicates, mapping them all to the podcast feed, and all the other work involved.
It's like a time-capsule (hey! Shep did a show on a time capsule in the 70's!), allowing us to zip right back and see the 60's and 70's all over again, through this thick-glassed porthole of electronic signals. Really cool, really appreciated.

The Internet Archive is the back end for this podcast, so yes, that would probably be me. I don't know what you mean by "1960 Volume 1," but all the files I have are in this podcast. I count 29 shows labeled 1960. If you're having trouble downloading them, please respond here. Thanks!

Scrolling down one sees that the third listing reads "1960pt2", while the next reads "1960pt3." Scrolling through all the rest of the hodings there is no listing for a 1960pt1. Likewise, since 1960 pt2 starts in june of 1960, I'm wondering if there may have been a 1960 pt. 1 with shows fron January-May 1960 at one time.

No worries--everything I have is in there. There is no 1960pt1, though there is a "JeanShepherd196003261stSatShowLast65min" folder which should have been named "1960pt1". Call it a newbie goof that would have been more confusing for subscribers if I'd fixed it at the time.

Thanks for the time and interest that you had to get this done. I appreciate it and had begun to think no one would ever resurrect any of his shows. I began listening as a kid in the 50s and throughout school, stayed up to listen on my transistor and earplug. I guess i listened long before i had any idea what he was talking about , but loved the stories. In my 60s now, i can click on a show i downloaded to a drive and fall asleep thinking it is 1960 again. And i remember many of them, i listened every night for many years until i went to college, i guess.
Thank you I use to listen to him as a young boy in New York. You have saved an icon. Now I can listen to him in my old age. Your work is priceless. Thank you, oh the memories.
Hello, I couldn't find an email for you so posting here hopefully you'll see it. I originally recorded many Jean Shepherd radio shows in the early '70's to 1977. Most all of them were recorded from 2 local FM public radio stations, so quality is very good. A couple months back I started transferring these tapes over to MP3 files on the computer. If you would like to post these shows on your Shepherd website, just let me know. If you could let me know your email address I can give you more detailed information. Maybe if you happen to have any Shepherd shows that you haven't already posted perhaps we could do a MP3 exchange. Please let me know if you're interested in my tapes, now on MP3, I have a detailed listing of the shows I can attach to an email to you.
